In my corporate banking days I’ve seen the effects of corporate hierarchy.
The five at the top never carried any ‘knives’ (read that as ego). They had no one to impress.

One level below, already there was a bloodbath. Own and trrorise those below, wound and kill those on the same level, and try to suck their way to the upper level.

I was an average IT guy, helping him a few times, but the COO (from France) called me to his office (when relocating to another country) to say goodbye, offering me a bottle of wine from his vineyard.

That was a huge shocker and a valuable life lesson for me.
