Yesterday, when I was thinking and writing this previous comment I thought of a colleague at work.

Whenever I said something, he was in my face. Always negating everything I said. He started to bother me a lot. But I liked some pf his thoughts and ideas. And he never cared to be likeable. Nobody liked him. We often had quite loud quarrels.

Later, I came to a position to become his superior. He was the only person that I relied on. And I would resign if somebody sacked him.

I learned to mature my ego and listen to the details in his arguments. Pure goldnuggets.

And the best thing I learned was the (difference between) steelmanning and strawmanning.
I learned that no one is ever 100% wrong, and I want to find and learn what they have for me to improve and broaden my perspectives.
It’s painful sometimes, but it makes all the difference (I believe).
